| In Hong Kong, it’s very different than those in America. In Hong Kong, BBQ we just, we usually go to a public barbecue area close to a park, a mountain, or a beach, so it's actually a bit of hike, or a bit of walk in the nature when you get there. And when we do barbecue we get these metal forks and then we put food on it and then we barbecue it on top of open fire, charcoal open fire, and usually, we put like sausage, pork chop, chicken wings, marshmallow. |

| 5. 蒲通宵 (pou4 tung1 siu1) "to party all night" |
| 每逢週末，佢都去蘭桂坊蒲通宵。 (mui5 fung4 zau1 mut6, keoi5 dou1 heoi3 laan4 gwai3 fong1 pou4 tung1 siu1.) "He goes to Lan Kwai Fong to party all night every weekend." |
| So Lan Kwai Fong is a very famous clubbing and bar area in hong kong. It’s in Central, and there are a lot of bars and clubs and fancy restaurants over there so people usually go there for nightlife. Check it out next time when you're in Hong Kong. |
| 6. 曬太陽 (saai3 taai3 joeng4) "to get a tan" |
| 夏天最好去沙灘曬太陽，游下水同睇下靚女。 (haa6 tin1 zeoi3 hou2 heoi3 saa1 taan1 saai3 taai3 joeng4, jau4 haa5 seoi2 tung4 tai2 haa5 leng3 neoi5.) "It is the best to go to the beach, take a swim, and check out the pretty girl on the beach." |
| I guess a man wrote this?! I don't need to check out pretty girls… but yes, that's a good thing to do, swim at the beach, and get a suntan and enjoy outdoor. |
| 7. 行山 (haang4 saan1) "hiking" |
| 行(haang4) is “to walk”, and 山 (saan1) is “mountain”, so walking in the mountains, hiking. |
| 行山係非常健康嘅活動。 (haang4 saan1 hai6 fei1 soeng4 gin6 hong1 ge3 wut6 dung6.) "Hiking is a very healthy activity." |

| 8. 做兼職 (zou6 gim1 zik1) "to work a part-time job" |
| 好多學生喺暑假做兼職。 (hou2 do1 hok6 saang1 hai2 syu2 gaa3 zou6 gim1 zik1.) "Many students work a part-time job during the summer." |
| If a student is only doing it during the summer holiday, we call it 暑期工 (syu2 kei4 gung1); if it's a longer term part-time job we call it 兼職(gim1 zik1). Do you do part-time job during the summer, or do you go play? Let us know in the comment section. |
| 9. 同朋友玩 (tung4 pang4 jau5 waan2) "to have fun with friends" |
| 我哋決定去離島租間度假屋，同朋友玩。 (ngo5 dei6 kyut3 ding6 heoi3 lei4 dou2 zou1 gaan1 dou6 gaa3 uk1, tung5 pang4 jau5 waan2.) "We have decided to rent a vacation house on the island to have fun with friends." |
| So that is what I used to do when I was in high school, we would go rent a vacation house for like 10, 15 people to stay overnight, just to hang out, kind of like a slumber party. Because in Hong Kong not many people have a house that is big enough to invite a whole group of friends over to party, and on the island there are a lot of cheaper choices. Island meaning somewhere close to the airport, like Lantau Island, or Lamma Island, Discovery Bay; a lot of, like, outskirt area where you can rent a vacation house. |
| 10. 遊船河 (jau4 syun4 ho2) "to have a boating party" |
| 每到夏天，我就會去遊船河。 (mui5 dou3 haa6 tin1, ngo5 zau6 wui5 heoi3 jau4 syun4 ho2.) "Every summer, I go have a boating party (or go sailing).” |
| So 遊船河 (jau4 syun4 ho2) typically means sailing, or go on a yacht and then sail around. But in Hong Kong, you can rent a sailing boat, you can rent a yacht and, like, sail around, go swim in the ocean, play all sorts of water activities. It's very fun, and enjoy the wind in your hair. |
