Hi, guys! How are you? Welcome back to Cantonese Top Words. I’m Olivia and today, we are going to talk about how to respond to “How are you?” 你好嗎? (nei5 hou2 maa3?) So in this lesson, we’re going to see a bunch of the responses to “How are you?”. Here we go! |
1. 你好嗎? (nei5 hou2 maa3?) “How are you?” |
你 (nei5) is “you”, 好 (hou2) is “good or well”, so you well? |
2. 你呢? (nei5 ne1?) “And you?” |
你 (nei5) is “you”, so 呢 (ne1) is the question word, you and you? |
3. 你最近點呀? (nei5 zeoi3 gan6 dim2 aa3?) “How have you been recently?” |
最近 (zeoi3 gan6) is “recently or lately” so “How are you lately?” 你最近點呀? (nei5 zeoi3 gan6 dim2 aa3?) |
點呀 (dim2 aa3) is like “how is it, how are you”. |
4. 我好好。 (ngo5 hou2 hou2.) “I'm fine.” |
I’m very good. 我好好。 (ngo5 hou2 hou2.) |
5. 我幾好。 (ngo5 gei2 hou2.) “I'm not bad.” |
I’m pretty good. 幾好 (gei2 hou2) is “pretty good”. |
6. 我都幾好。 (ngo5 dou1 gei2 hou2.) “I'm fine too.” |
I’m pretty good too. 都 (dou1) is “also or too” so I”m also well. |
7. 我好眼瞓。 (ngo5 hou2 ngaan5 fan3.) “I'm sleepy.” |
眼瞓 (ngaan5 fan3) is “sleepy”. |
8. 我情緒好差。 (ngo5 cing4 seoi5 hou2 caa1.) “I'm feeling bad.” |
我情緒好差。 (ngo5 cing4 seoi5 hou2 caa1.) “I'm feeling bad. / I’m feeling low.” |
情緒 (cing4 seoi5) is like “my mindset”, 差 (caa1) is “bad”, 差 (caa1) “bad” |
9. 我OK啦。 (ngo5 OK laa1.) “I'm okay.” |
So just use OK, 我OK啦。 (ngo5 OK laa1.). |
10. 多謝關心。 (do1 ze6 gwaan1 sam1.) “Thank you for asking.” |
It’s like thank you for caring about me literally so 多謝關心。 (do1 ze6 gwaan1 sam1.). |
