Eric: Welcome to 3-Minute Cantonese Season 1, Lesson 2 - Greetings. In this lesson, you’ll learn what to say to someone when you arrive and when you leave in Cantonese.
Body
Eric: Here's the informal way to say 'Hi' in Cantonese.
Olivia: [Normal] 哈囉。(ha1 lo3)
Eric: This expression has only one word, meaning 'Hi'
Olivia: [Normal] 哈囉 [Slow] 哈囉 (ha1 lo3)
Eric: Listen again to the informal word meaning 'Hi.'
Olivia: [Slow] 哈囉。 [Normal] 哈囉。(ha1 lo3
Eric: Ok, now let's see the formal way to say 'Good day.'
Olivia: [Normal] 你好。(nei5 hou2)
Eric: First we have a pronoun meaning 'you'
Olivia: [Normal] 你 [Slow] 你 (nei5)
Eric: Last is the adjective meaning ‘good'
Olivia: [Normal] 好 [Slow] 好(hou2)
Eric: Listen again to the formal phrase meaning 'Good day.'
Olivia: [Slow] 你好。 [Normal] 你好。(nei5 hou2)
Eric: Next let’s look at the informal way to say 'See you.'
Olivia: [Normal] 拜拜。(baai1 baai3)
Eric: This expression has only one word, meaning ‘See you.’
Olivia: [Normal] 拜拜 [Slow] 拜拜(baai1 baai3)
Eric: Listen again to the informal way to say 'See you.'
Olivia: [Slow] 拜拜。 [Normal] 拜拜。(baai1 baai3)
Eric: Finally we have the way to say ‘See you later.'
Olivia: [Normal] 遲啲見。(ci4 di1 gin3)
Eric: First is an adverb meaning 'later'

Eric: Last is the verb meaning 'to see'
Olivia: [Normal] 見 [Slow] 見(gin3)
Eric: Listen again to the phrase meaning ‘See you later.'

Eric: Now it's time for a quick cultural insight.
Olivia: In formal situations, Cantonese speakers commonly greet each other by shaking hands. But if we meet someone with whom we are very close, we may sometimes pat each other on the arm or on the back.
